How does one make decent Magic: The Gathering proxies?

I'm talking about the kind that you print out and afix to a card. The group I'm playing with allows them but I just can't seem to figure out the dimensions and programs used.

go to http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/ and download the set editor. It ca help make nice proxies and is fun to play around with. To make a proxie, you can go to cardkingdom.com or any other card site you know and save the image of the card you want to make. Then use a photo editing program to crop it to just the picture and load it into the card in the program. Then you can just type the text into the text box. The program allows for every type of symbol and reminder text. You can even get the border colors however you wan them.

Take a land and a magic marker.Write the name of the card on the land.Boom. Perfectly effective proxy.Just make sure to know the card wording ( or better yet bring a printout of it with you ).For me though, proxies take the fun out of Magic. Making due with what you have forces you to think of new combos and tactics.

There is a new service that will give you new proxies as they become available through SMS. All you have to do is text PROXIES to 41411. You will then get a reply with the day's newest proxy, which is guaranteed not to be blocked by network administrators.
