Does any know how you configure proxy server settings for a broadband connection

in internet tools? I was informed that the reason I may be getting "bad request" errors in google and Yahoo, is that I need to use a proxy server connection, rather than go direct.
Does anyone out there have the same problem with bad request" your client has issued a malformed or illegal request error? I get this only when accessing google or Yahoo and espaecially when clicking on 3rd party links.
I have tried clearing browser cookies, and the cache and every other thing to correct it-but to no avail.
I would greatly appreciate any advice!
