Can A Website Tell If you Register Using a CGI Proxy Service?

If i register for a site through the use of an online free anonymity service. does the website have a way of tracking my original IP? or would it appear to them that it is a different IP other than my own. I have done this successfully 2 times. both times showing that the account registered having a unique IP. I was just curious as to whether the websites statistics would show the url that was used (cgi proxy ). Im not using this for any type of gain or anything im just a curious soul. So the main question is. When you browse the web using a proxy, is it traceable to the average run of the mill website that it is a masked ip? or would it show that it is in fact a regular person somewhere in the world signing up for an account on the site.Another thing i was curious about also. CGI proxies have very long urls, would the website see the url in the referral statistics within the sites stats? Thus exposing the use of a proxy?help answerring any of these questions is 100% helpful.ty
